Kids Day!

Volunteering is a wonderful way for kids to learn about the Food Bank and the issue of hunger; Studies have found that youth who volunteer are more likely to volunteer as adults. Kids Day also allows for families and groups to spend quality time together while learning more about their community.

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina offers opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill sets. Kids Day at the Food Bank is a monthly event for youth between the ages of 5 and 12. Youth learn about the issue of hunger and the mission of the Food Bank while touring the facility and participating in a volunteer service project. Kids Day is currently offered at our Durham, Greenville and Raleigh branches.

During Kids Day, volunteers will tour our warehouse which allows kids to get a close-up look at the Food Bank. All volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in an age-appropriate food sorting project. An example of a Kids Day volunteer project is repackaging bulk food into family-size portions. Kids Day is a great opportunity for families and groups of all sizes and we ask that all youth are accompanied by an adult.

In Durham, Kids Day is offered the fourth Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. All families and groups need to sign up in advance. To sign up, please fill out the all other opportunities volunteer form.

In Greenville, Kids Day is offered the second Saturday of the month from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. All families and groups need to sign up in advance. To sign up, please fill out the all other opportunities volunteer form.

In Raleigh, Kids Day is offered the second Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm throughout the year as well as the fourth Saturday of the month from October to April. We are so appreciative of the great response for a wonderful program! It has prompted many group leaders to engage our youth and for this we are extremely grateful. At this time we are fully booked through April 2008, and will no longer be taking reservations for May through September, 2008. We would also like to take this time to suggest that a food drive might be a great alternative, and this would also greatly benefit our organization! We would be happy to help assist your group with your drive and can offer many helpful tips! Please contact our Raleigh Volunteer Coordinator for additional ideas or feel free to visit our Sponsor a Food Drive page.
